Unfortunately, scams on the Internet and in life in general are abundant. We get a couple of emails per month from people stating that they were almost scammed or were scammed out of their money. Pocket Beagles USA wants to share with you a few “red flags” to look for when looking for a puppy. We did not add this page to our site to increase traffic or to get you to purchase from us. Our babies never have issues finding homes. So, we do not have to put something like this on our page for that reason. We are placing this information here because we hate for you to get scammed out of your money and not get a new fur baby. We also just cannot stand a thief!

 

So here it goes:

 

• The one reoccurring issue that we are seeing is third party “Shipping Agents.” If they do not book through an airlines or through a company that at least has a website that you can research about them please stop right there! Run in the opposite direction!

 

• Does the wording on the website, in their emails, and text messages sound like they do not speak English? Does their written English when read aloud sound like what one would call “broken English?” It probably is then . . . most scammers are not even located in the USA. They are in foreign countries sitting at computers playing their money games.

 

• Do the photos on their website have watermarks? No one in the industry that values their photos post them without watermarks. We all know that scammers copy unmarked images and claim them as their own. (Yes, we do occasionally forget to watermark a photo but 99% of ours will have a watermark.)

 

• Do the puppies (supposedly from the same litter) vary significantly in size with all of the photos having a different backgrounds? This happens when the photos are stolen from other sources and are put on a site. RED FLAG ALERT!

 

• Is the price too good to be true? Guess what--It IS!!! People cannot invest time and money in a puppy, the adults and their facility and not get enough return on their investment. (Medications, Shots, Food, Heat/Cooling, Bedding, Licenses, Registration, Vet Care, the owner’s time and then some profit--those things aren’t cheap!) A $450 dog with free shipping is a SCAM!!!!!! Do the math--it’s not possible.

 

• A dog CANNOT be flown* for less than $200+ in an airplane! We pay $279 just for the puppy not to mention carrier, transfer to the airport, certificate of health for the dog and etc. No one can do all of that for $167. RED FLAG Flying High Here! *Flown is not the same as “Carried On”

 

• Airlines do not have “Puppy Nannies” that they personally choose to fly with all of the puppies. Some airline workers, when off duty, will fly on “stand-by” with a puppy for a breeder just to make some money on the side but they are not being employed by the airlines when they do this they are private “flight nannies.”

 

• When a scammer is trying to sell you a puppy they will often quote you one price then turn around and tell you they are going to need more money. Breeders know the price of their animals and can find out the exact price for a flight--there are no changes unless the dog weighs more than initially thought or it has to be kept by the breeder for a while before shipping as weighs more. Flight prices are not based on locations they are based on weight of the puppy and the carrier. DO NOT PAY extra because you are told you need a thermal carrier or your do cannot be flown to you! The scammer is just trying to get more money from you! • Airlines will not allow blankets and toys to fly with puppies in the cargo area! Red Flag if they are including a blanket (with mom’s smell on it) with the puppy. ---- We use to put a fabric softener sheet (like used in your dryer) in the carriers to help keep the puppy fresh smelling while traveling. The airlines will not even allow that they deem it as a choking hazard so they def. would not allow a blanket. Also, if a puppy has been weaned from the mother the puppy has already forgotten about mom’s smell.

 

• DO NOT--DO NOT--DO NOT give people your credit card number! They have no need for it and should NEVER want the responsibility of having it. We are in a day and age that there are other safe methods of payment that have security features in place. Do not use Zelle or others like it. They warn you to not purchase items with it because there is ZERO protection. We use PayPal. There are protections in place for us as well as our customers.

 

• Puppies that are being flown are not going to be hand delivered to your home. If the person is flying are they really going to a taxi, uber, or rent a car to bring you a dog? They are only asking for $167 to do all of this. RED, RED, RED Flag!

 

• If the website looks thrown together or looks like it has nothing to do with raising dogs then you are probably right.

 

• The web address and the name of the business do not match

Here is some actual text from a Scammer’s email that a customer sent to us. Notice the broken English.

As concern the shipping it will take 4-5 hours on a direct flight  with our pet delivery partners. We ship puppies by United ,Delta Airlines ,Alaskan and Frontier Airlines  These airlines are very experienced in animal shipping. They take excellent care using experienced pet sitters while they maintain strict guidelines assuring the safety of your puppy. All puppies are accompanied by a puppy nanny designated by the airlines company i will use, to take care of all the puppies they are flying , The puppy will also be very comfortable during the flight because she will be in a  temperature regulatory crate and inside will be some play toys, blanket and food stuff  so i will need your full shipping and delivery information which i will use in registering him for the delivery.

Once I have these information I will then check if there is a direct flight from here to your location then I will let you know how to make the payment for the puppy so that I'll be able to book a flight for the puppy so we can be placed in your home as soon as possible. Once i received your complete shipping information, i will send you my payment information for you to make the payment. Once payment is confirmed, i will take maximum 2-3 hrs to have the shipment process completed and you will be notified by the shipping agency for the departure and arrival time of your puppy during which you will be required to be at home to sign and collect your puppy.

This phone number for this website does show up to be a McAllen number. The ship- ping agent area code is out of New Jersey. They have puppies for sale for $450 with Free Shipping. RED FLAG! An airline ticket cost $270 then the cost of the crate and the health certificate so they would be letting this baby go for less than $100 after they paid for everything. BE SMART PEOPLE!!! Dear Receiver/Owner of Parcel Labeled 075-87556TX/78, Your  Puppies are now for delivery to you . Your Puppies has now been checked at the pet quarantine department and all the registrations and health certificates are available . Due to the weather conditions , you have to rent a different crate for your dogs reasons for a change of crate !

 

1: The shipping crate of the puppies has to be changed from a ventilated to an electronic thermal crate . the ventilated crate does not contain potty puppies space , water bowl and food cane . the crate is small for the relaxation of the puppies on the flight .Due to the above , the crate has to be change from a ventilated crate to an electronic thermal crate.

 

2: we are experiencing an unfavorable weather condition and shipping the puppies in the ventilated crate will be detrimental to the health of the puppies. From the above forecast, the puppies cannot be shipped in its original crate. The crate has to be changed to an Electronic Thermal crate to ensure the safety of the dogs on the flight to your location. We have these crates with us in different varieties and PD (power drive). We do not sell the crate to our customers but we offer them for a hire on rental terms to safeguard the dogs on the flight. Since the sender of the dogs shipped the dogs using a ventilated crate, when the delivery agent will be doing the delivery, he/she will come along with the Ventilated crate to do the changes and have your money refunded. We requested that you make a choice from the above list of crates and choose the type you will like your dogs to travel in for safety. Your dogs are Beagle Puppies  and we lay emphasis on the second crate for these dogs due to the temperament of the dogs Note: The higher the PD, the more safety and guarantee the dogs has on the flight. All payment will be done at THE NET PRIME SHIPPING , the shipping and delivery company for your dogs since they would be the one's to refund the money back and collect the crate.
